Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on 9 August 1963 at Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney started singing in the church choir when she was a young child. At the age 15 she joined her mother in the background vocals for Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978. She went on to provide the backing vocals of Jermaine Jackson, Lou Rawls and her mother, and also did a brief stint as model on the cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. In 1983, Material, the New York City funk-rock band Material recruited her to be the band's main vocalist. Their talent was the reason she was enthused to join the major label Arista. Whitney Houston was her debut album. Whitney Houston was released in 1985, and was the most-seller album by a debut artist. Three of her singles, Saving My Love To You, How WillI Know That You're Giving Love Good and the Greatest Love of All came from the album. The songs contributed to Houston achieve seven US top tens which beat even the Beatles. It sold three million copies its first year, and over 25 million worldwide. She won her the first six Grammys. The Whitney album of 1987, featuring the tracks I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to and continued to be a huge success. It is The Bodyguard of 1992 that turned her into one of the most successful musicians in recent history. The film, and her performance as a character was not appreciated, however, the soundtrack as well as her version of the song by Dolly Parton I Will Always Love You were charted for months in the charts, and she sold more than 44 million albums and singles worldwide. That same year she was married to Bobby Brown who was a previous New Edition singer. She was the sole daughter of Bobby and Bobbi Kristina Brown in the month of March, 1993. Dana Bash (also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz) is a CNN reporter, anchorwoman and political correspondent.
