April Ross

April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball stars to win medals at many Olympics. Alix Klineman has become a brand new Olympian who will be joining the team in Tokyo. Ross aims to earn her Olympic debut gold, however, she also hopes to earn even more. It may well be that she has one chance, at 39 years old. But she's convinced that top honors are firmly at hand. Ross told NBC Boston that if they play their best, and even play well and they are able to play well, the team could win a gold medal. Additionally, I'm going be relying on a little bit of luck. Ross was born in 1982 and was raised within Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started playing the sports of Newport Harbor High school. Ross went on to play in a myriad of activities at Newport Harbor High School. In addition to indoor volleyball, she played basketball and jogged track in her pre-college days. However, she was a standout during this game. In her time at the high school level in her university bio, she was a middle-blocker, outside-hitter and setter. She was awarded by the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. Also, in 2000 she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the year for volleyball. Ross is playing alongside Klineman since the year 2017. However, Ross's beach game was well-established long before this. She has won major tournaments twice with different partners. The other is an iconic player in the volleyball world. Ross teamed up together with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and also was Klineman's coach. Alongside Kessy Ross was a force on the international stage, claiming the world championship in 2009. They were awarded a silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team along with Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. It was fate that had them. Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner as May-Treanor stepped down. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball medal at Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. Ross competed for USC Trojans throughout her college prior to becoming a professional. The Trojans had a great career for Ross in the school. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year when she was a teen freshman. She also helped her Trojans get to the Final Four. The Trojans were devastated through a tragedy in her life during her sophomore year. However, she went on to be an All-American in her second year. In her last two seasons in the Trojans' program the team was led to victories by winning consecutive national championships. She had established her place as a legend winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross majored in international relations at USC. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie was not able to witness Ross rise to the top levels of beach volleyball fame. Ross's mother died of cancer of the breast when she was in her sophomore year at USC. She is devoted to her mother who died. Margie, on the beach and in daily life, inspires her.
